Landing Page Optimization for Paid Search

Sunday, September 19, 2010

Have you faced situations where PPC and other Paid Search is not converting while organic traffic results in converting ? This might be a usability issue in your landing page and there might be numerous reasons why this happens. Here are some of the main factors which might be causing this:

1) Is your Search engine optimized content on the landing page having too much length ?

2) Have you mentioned the highlights of the product/service clearly ? Using a bullet point will make visitors see the features/highlights quickly

3) Do you have more than one call to action ? A visitor should be able to book from the landing page whenever he feels that this is the right product which he has been looking for. Visitor behaviour changes from person to person and there should be more call to action so that each visitor can make a choice according to his/her wish.

4) We all know that this is a highly fast world so the landing page should be well optimized to give the customer a quick value proposition why he should book your products/services.

5) Loading time of the landing page is an important factor. The desired loading time should be below 10 seconds for a well optimized landing page.

6) Don’t repeat content as this will make visitors think that the site is not having valuable information.

7) Mostly a visitor will make their buying decision within seconds. Design the landing page in such a way that it captures the attention of the visitors as soon as he enters the page and also communicates the primary value proposition to the visitor within the least time.

8) Test different versions of content to attract visitors and test which sort of content is working in PPC campaigns. Use seperate landing pages for PPC and test the outcomes of each landing page.

You can now optimize your landing page based on the above 8 main factors which affects the conversion from Paid Search. You can also do a A/B testing and Multivariate Testing to find which landing page is getting more conversions from Paid Search.

If you know about more factors that affect Landing Page Optimization(LPO), feel free to share your thoughts as comments.

Google Expected to introduce AJAX powered search results

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

There has been a lot of buzz on Internet about seeing more than 10 results per Search Engine Result Page. The first person to have reported the same is Andy Beard through his blogpost on 20 results per page . I have then noticed that Barry Schwartz has also posted similar instance of seeing about 30 search results per page through his Search Engine Land blogpost. Now I have read about an AJAX based search going to be introduced in Google SERP. The same was published in SEO Round Table post. Google might announce the same on the press event that is scheduled for Wednesday, September 8 that is tomorrow. I hope that this is going to be a big shift in the search industry as users will now get more diversified results on same search engine result pages. This is a good move from Google Engineers. I also hope that the search dominance of big business will come to an end with this latest update. Online reputation managers will now have a hard time to mointor bad/negative reviews. The other feature that might come is streaming results as users type a particular keyword on to Google. This “streaming results as you type” is going to make Google an interactive, real time and fast search engine. I hope the new changes are happening for good and this changes are really going to help the search industry.

What is your take on “streaming results as you type”and 30 results per search engine result page ? Do share your thoughs. I do like to hear you views about the latest updates.
